PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.
PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.
Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.
The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.
However, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing penalty victory.
Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
